Effect of Morphine and Naloxone on Gastric Acid Secretion and Serum Gastrin in Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
The present study was undertaken to assess the effect of morphine and naloxone on gastric secretion and serum gastrin in rats.
The results were as follows;
1) In the low-dose morphine group, the volume and the pH of gastric juice were reduced but the acid output was increased.
2) In the high-dose morphine group, the volume of gastric juice was reduced while the pH and acid output of gastric juice were not changed.
3) In the naloxone group, the pH was increased but the volume and acid output were not changed.
4) In the naloxone-morphine group, the volume of gastric juice was reduced, but the pH, acid output of gastric juice were increased.
5) Morphine and naloxone had not effect on serum gastrin concentration.
